How does Sitavig work (mechanism of action)?
Sitavig is an antiviral medicine that stops the growth of herpes viruses and improves symptoms. It is important to note that Sitavig is not a cure. The herpes viruses remain in the body even if you do not have symptoms.

How should I store Sitavig?
Sitavig should be stored at room temperature, between 68 F to 77 F (20 C to 25 C). It can be exposed to temperatures between 59 F to 86 F (15 C to 30 C) for shorter periods of time, such as when transporting it. Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture.

- Racing heart
- Fever or general ill feeling
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
- Trouble swallowing or throat tightness
- Itching, skin rash, or pale red bumps on the skin called hives
- Nausea or vomiting
- Dizziness, feeling lightheaded, or fainting
- Stomach cramps
- Joint pain

Who should not use Sitavig?
Allergies to Ingredients. People who are allergic to any of the following should not use Sitavig.
- Sitavig

What should I know about Sitavig before using it?
Do not use Sitavig unless it has been prescribed to you by a healthcare provider. Use it as prescribed.
Do not share Sitavig with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.
Keep Sitavig out of the reach of children.
Do not remove Sitavig from the blister pack until you are ready to use it. Your hands should be dry when handling the tablet.
You should apply Sitavig within one hour of first having cold sore symptoms, such as tingling or burning. The tablet should be applied before the cold sore appears.
Sitavig is applied on the upper gum. It should be applied on the same side where you have symptoms. The tablet will stay in place and slowly dissolve. Do not apply the tablet to the inside of your cheek or lip. If you have any questions about how to use Sitavig, ask your healthcare provider.
Do not chew, crush, suck, or swallow Sitavig.
You may eat and drink normally while using Sitavig. If your mouth is dry, drink plenty of liquids. However, you should avoid activities that may affect how well the tablet stays in place, such as chewing gum or brushing your teeth.
What should I tell my healthcare provider before using Sitavig?
Tell your healthcare provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them determine if Sitavig is right for you.
In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following.
Current and Past Health Conditions. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any of the following.
- Allergy to valacyclovir or any other medicines
- A weak immune system
Pregnancy. It is not known if or how Sitavig could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you are or plan to become pregnant. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should use Sitavig while you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
Breastfeeding. It is not known if Sitavig passes into breast milk. Tell your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Your healthcare provider will advise you if you should use Sitavig while breastfeeding.

There are no known interactions between Sitavig and foods or drinks.

Overdose/Missed Dose
What should I do if I accidentally use too much Sitavig?

Sitavig is meant to be used only when needed. Use it as your healthcare provider recommends. Do not use double or extra doses.
If Sitavig falls off after you apply the tablet to the upper gum, ask your healthcare provider whether you need to apply a new tablet.
