What is Cablivi used for?

Cablivi (caplacizumab-yhdp) is commonly used to treat certain types of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (aTTP), which is a condition that causes blood clots to form in your small blood vessels.

Cablivi may also be used for other conditions as determined by your health care provider.

How does Cablivi work (mechanism of action)?

How should I store Cablivi?

Cablivi should be stored in a refrigerator between 36 F and 46 F (2 C and 8 C). Unopened Cablivi vials can be stored at room temperature up to 86 F (30 C) for up to two months for a single period of time. Do not return it to the refrigerator after it has been stored at room temperature. Keep Cablivi in its original container to protect it from light. Do not freeze it.

  • Nosebleed

What are the serious side effects of Cablivi?

While less common, the most serious side effects of Cablivi are described below, along with what to do if they happen.

Severe Allergic Reactions. Cablivi may cause allergic reactions, which can be serious. Stop using Cablivi and get help right away if you have any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

  • Breathing problems or wheezing
  • Racing heart
  • Fever or general ill feeling
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, or throat
  • Trouble swallowing or throat tightness
  • Itching or skin rash
  • Bumps on the skin called hives that can be red, pink, white, or brown, depending on your skin tone
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness, feeling lightheaded, or fainting
  • Stomach cramps
  • Joint pain

Severe Bleeding. Cablivi can increase your risk of severe bleeding that can lead to death. Some people with serious bleeding may need a blood transfusion or surgery. Call your health care provider right away if you have any of the following signs of severe bleeding while taking Cablivi.

  • Pink, red, or brown urine (pee)
  • Vomit with blood that looks like coffee grounds
  • Red or black stools (look like tar)
  • Coughing up blood or blood clots

Warnings & Precautions

Who should not use Cablivi?

Allergies to Ingredients. People who are allergic to any of the following should not use Cablivi.

  • Cablivi
  • Caplacizumab-yhdp
  • Any of the ingredients in the specific product dispensed

What should I know about Cablivi before using it?

Do not use Cablivi unless it has been prescribed to you by a health care provider. Use it as prescribed.

Do not share Cablivi with other people, even if they have the same condition as you. It may harm them.

Keep Cablivi out of the reach of children. Since this medicine should be kept in a refrigerator, take special precautions to keep it away from children who also use the refrigerator.

Cablivi may cause you to take longer than usual to stop bleeding. Tell your health care provider right away if you have any of the following symptoms.

  • Excessive or unusual bruising or bleeding
  • Pain, swelling, or discomfort
  • A cut that will not stop bleeding
  • Increased menstrual or vaginal bleeding
  • Bleeding gums when you brush your teeth
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness

Some doses of Cablivi are usually given by a health care provider in a hospital or clinic, and some doses may be given at home. If you give Cablivi at home, read and follow the instructions for the product you have and make sure you or your caregiver understands how to use it properly. If you have any questions, talk to your health care provider.

What should I tell my health care provider before using Cablivi?

Tell your health care provider about all of your health conditions and any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. This will help them know if Cablivi is right for you.

In particular, make sure that you discuss any of the following.

Current and Past Health Conditions. Tell your health care provider if you have any of the following.

  • A disorder that causes bleeding, such as hemophilia or a coagulation factor deficiency
  • Liver problems
  • A planned surgery, medical procedure, or dental procedure

Other Medicines and Supplements. Cablivi may interact with other medicines and supplements. Before using Cablivi, tell your health care provider about any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using. See the Interactions section for more details.

Pregnancy. It is not known if or how Cablivi could affect pregnancy or harm an unborn baby. Using Cablivi during pregnancy may increase the risk of bleeding for an unborn baby. Tell your health care provider if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Breastfeeding. It is not known if Cablivi passes into breast milk. Tell your health care provider if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.

Interactions

Does Cablivi interact with foods or drinks?

There are no known interactions between Cablivi and foods or drinks.

It is unknown if drinking alcohol will affect Cablivi, but both Cablivi and alcohol can increase your risk of bleeding. It is best to limit the amount of alcohol you drink.

Does Cablivi interact with other medicines (drug interactions)?

Always tell your health care provider about any prescription or over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, vitamins/minerals, herbal products, and other supplements you are using.

In particular, make sure that you discuss if you are using any of the following before using Cablivi.

  • A blood thinner such as warfarin, which is a medicine used to treat or prevent blood clots
  • An antiplatelet medicine, such as aspirin/dipyridamole, cilostazol, clopidogrel (Plavix), or ticagrelor (Brilinta), which is a medicine used to prevent blood clots
