Dojolvi is used to treat certain metabolic disorders where the body cannot break down long-chain fatty acids. It works by providing a type of fat that the body can use for energy. Common side effects include stomach discomfort, such as belly pain and diarrhea. Dojolvi comes in a liquid that is taken by mouth or through a feeding tube. It should always be mixed with food or liquid as directed by your health care provider.
Uses
What is Dojolvi used for?
Dojolvi (triheptanoin) is commonly used to treat long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAOD). These are a rare group of inherited metabolic disorders where your body cannot break down certain fatty acids for energy.
Dojolvi may also be used for other conditions as determined by your health care provider.
How does Dojolvi work (mechanism of action)?
Most of the fat found in food is made up of long-chain fatty acids. People with LC-FAOD cannot get energy from these fats because their bodies cannot break these fats down. Dojolvi provides a source of calories for people with LC-FAOD. It contains a special type of fat, called a medium-chain triglyceride, that people with LC-FAOD can use for energy.
