What do GenTeal products treat?
GenTeal products are used to treat dry, irritated eyes. The active ingredient in all GenTeal products is an eye lubricant, which helps lubricate your eyes to keep them moist.
The different eye lubricants found in GenTeal products include dextran, glycerin, hypromellose, mineral oil, and white petrolatum.
Talk to your health care provider to see if GenTeal products may be right for you.
What are the possible side effects of GenTeal products?
GenTeal products are generally safe to use. Side effects may vary depending on the ingredients in the specific product you are using.
Some possible side effects include stinging or redness of the eye. The ointment and gel products (GenTeal Severe) have a thicker consistency than the eye drop products (GenTeal Moderate). Using a GenTeal ointment or gel product may also cause temporary blurry vision, which is why it can be used during the day if you have severe eye irritation, or it can be used at night, before bedtime.
Stop using the medicine if you develop a rash or hives. Get medical help right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
What should I know before using GenTeal products?
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using any GenTeal product, and wait at least 10 minutes before putting them back in.
Read the instructions on the GenTeal product you are using to make sure you are using it correctly.
It is important to wash your hands before using the product. Do not touch the tip of the product to any surface. This may help prevent contamination or possible infections.
There is one product, called GenTeal Tears Preservative-Free Moderate Liquid Drops, that comes as a single-use vial and is preservative-free. If you are using this product, do not reuse the vial, and throw the vial away once you are done using it.
Stop using GenTeal and call your health care provider if you have any of the following.
- Eye pain
- Changes in vision
- Continue to have eye redness or irritation
- Symptoms get worse or last for more than three days (72 hours)
There may be side effects, additional warnings, and interactions with other medicines that are not listed here. These may vary depending on the combination of ingredients in the specific GenTeal product you are using. Always check the label before taking any over-the-counter medicine. Do not use more than the recommended dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your health conditions and other medicines to help determine which products are safe for you.
