Refresh Products for Dry Eyes

Refresh products are eye drops or eye ointments used to treat the burning, irritation, and dryness you feel in your eyes. They are also called artificial tears and can help keep your eyes healthy.

All Refresh products contain an eye lubricant. Think of this lubricant as a way to keep your eyes wet and comfortable, just like real tears do. This helps stop irritation and makes your eyes feel better.

Refresh products may be unique because they use different ingredients to keep your eyes moist, such as carboxymethylcellulose, glycerin, or mineral oil.

Refresh products are generally safe. The most common side effect is eye irritation.

Stop using the medicine if you develop a rash or hives. Get medical help right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.

Some Refresh products may be used while wearing contacts. Read the label on the specific Refresh product you are using to learn more about how and when to use the product.

Some Refresh products come as single-dose containers that you use once and throw away afterward. Others come in a bottle that you keep using. Read the directions for the Refresh product you are using to make sure you are using it correctly.

When using a Refresh product, do not touch the tip of the product to any surface. This may help prevent contamination or possible infections. Stop using Refresh products if you have eye pain, changes in vision, continued redness or irritation in your eyes, if your eye condition worsens, or if your symptoms last 72 hours or more.

Some Refresh products may be used after LASIK eye surgery or other eye surgeries to help with eye dryness. If your eye doctor asks you to use a Refresh product after an eye surgery, follow your eye doctor’s instructions.

There may be side effects, additional warnings, and interactions with other medicines that are not listed here. These may vary depending on the combination of ingredients in the specific Refresh product you are using. Always check the label before taking any over-the-counter medicine. Do not use more than the recommended dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your health conditions and other medicines to help determine which products are safe for you.
