Soothe products contain ingredients that reduce symptoms of dry eyes by lubricating or moisturizing your eyes.
Dry eyes may be temporary or they may last a longer period of time. Many things can cause dry eyes, some of which are listed below.
- Looking at your computer or other electronic devices for too long
- Eye surgery
- Living in a dry or polluted environment
- Natural aging or conditions related to aging, such as menopause
- Certain medicines, such as antihistamines for allergies
Talk to your health care provider to see if Soothe products may be right for you.
What are the possible side effects of Soothe products?
Soothe products are generally safe to use. Side effects may vary depending on the ingredients in the specific product you are using.
A possible side effect of using an eye ointment is blurry vision. Because of this, it is recommended to use an eye ointment at night, before bedtime. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery if you have blurry vision or are unable to see clearly.
Stop using the product if you get a rash or hives. Get medical help right away if you have signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.
What should I know before using Soothe products?
Soothe products for dry eyes come as an eye drop or eye ointment. Make sure that you know how to correctly use an eye drop or an eye ointment.
Some Soothe products are single-use, meaning you use them only once. Make sure that you throw away a single-use product after using it, even if some product is left over. These products do not have a preservative and can easily grow germs.
Some Soothe products come in a multi-dose bottle that you can keep using until the bottle is finished/expired.
It is important to look at any Soothe product before using it. In general, eye drops should be clear and colorless. The exception is Soothe XP-Xtra Protection products. These eye drops need to be shaken before each use and appear as a milky white solution. Do not use Soothe XP-Xtra Protection products if they do not appear as milky white. Throw away any product that looks unusual, including eye drops that have changed color or contain particles. Germs can easily grow in eye drops.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using a Soothe product. Talk to your health care provider about whether and when to wear contact lenses while you have dry eyes.
Do not use an eye drop after eye surgery unless you are told to do so by your eye doctor. If you use more than one eye product, you may need to use them in a specific order with a certain amount of time between their use.
When using a Soothe product, do not touch the tip of the product to any surface. For example, do not touch the dropper with your fingers. Also, be sure to replace the cap after you use the product. These steps may help prevent germs from getting into the product.
Stop using any Soothe product and call your health care provider right away if you have eye pain, changes in your vision, or continued redness or irritation in your eyes.
Stop using the product and call your health care provider if your eye condition worsens or if your symptoms last 72 hours (three days) or more. Dry eyes can lead to other eye problems. Also, your symptoms may not be from dry eyes. It is always important to talk to your health care provider about your symptoms.
There may be side effects, additional warnings, and interactions with other medicines that are not listed here. These may vary depending on the combination of ingredients in the specific Soothe product you are using. Always check the label before taking any over-the-counter medicine. Do not use more than the recommended dose. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your health conditions and other medicines to help determine which products are safe for you.
