Managing Crohn's with Supplements

Understanding Crohn's Disease
When you have Crohn's disease, you may need help getting the proper nutrients. Flares, symptoms, surgeries, and medications can make it harder for your body to absorb essential vitamin and minerals.

The Role of Supplements
Your doctor may suggest supplements to fill in the nutritional gaps. They can help you manage Crohn's symptoms and ward off problems like anemia and osteoporosis.

Importance of a Healthy Diet
A healthy diet is the best way to get nutrients, but you may avoid eating foods that are rich in nutrients if they trigger symptoms. Spinach and other leafy greens, for example, may lead to diarrhea, bloating, or cramping.

Benefits of Liquid Supplements
If you have a poor appetite or difficulty eating, your doctor may recommend liquid supplements. They are easier to eat and digest.

Potential of Herbal Supplements
Herbal supplements like boswellia, marshmallow, and turmeric show promise, but we need more research to support their use for Crohn's disease.

A Word of Caution
Check with your doctor before taking any supplements. They may trigger symptoms or have side effects. Remember that supplements aren't regulated by the FDA. Claims on the label may be unproven, and the supplement may be unsafe or ineffective.
