Alicia Racelis, PhD, is a health writer and editor based in Atlanta. Before joining WebMD, Racelis worked for several medical and biomedical companies. She spent 15 years in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) field for BD, Siemens, and Quest Diagnostics. Racelis is a former assistant medical director at Siemens, where she oversaw adverse event reporting, health hazard evaluations, and product issues, among other responsibilities.
Racelis is the Southeast chapter secretary of the American Medical Writers Association. She also is active in peer reviews for the Endocrine Society. Racelis has a bachelor’s degree in biology and philosophy and a doctorate in medical genetics, both from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Her passion and commitment has always been to patient safety and education.
Outside of work, Racelis’s husband, three boys, two cats, and one dog keep her busy. Firepits, s’mores, and Filipino cooking are family favorites. She’s always up for a good game of mahjong, too.
